Quote of the Day – Americans and Their Burgers

“My opinion is that the media is the main supporter of healthy eating. We’re certainly not hearing it from our customers. And [surveys] show that while consumers say they want to eat healthier, what they actually want is a big juicy burger.”

Andrew Puzder, who is the CEO of CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s.

  • The worst reason to adopt a particular diet is for health or emotional reasons. I’ve been able to stay a vegetarian for 32 years because I hate meat. That’s why I became a vegetarian–I hate meat.

  • I am a firm believer in the market economy. People speak with their dollars and choices. We don’t need government (or the media) to tell us what we should or shouldn’t be eating. Our taste buds and dolalrs will dictate what businesses will provide in their restaurants.

  • I disagree with the notion that burger chains have no social responsibility to provide healthier food.

They spend hundreds of millions on Madison Avenue to market unhealthy food to kids.

I say, a pox on these companies who colonize the minds of children and clog their arteries.

  • There is only one thing more dangerous than ill-informed choice and that is the illusion of free choice, unencumbered by influence/ persuasion/ incentive. I would agree with Vince Williams in that respect.
