Book Review: The Best American Magazine Writing of 2004

If you like magazine journalism like I do, you’ll like The Best American Magazine Writing of 2004. Some outstanding essays. My favorites included Tucker Carlson’s piece in Esquire on his trip to Africa with Cornel West, Al Sharpton, and other black leaders. Hilarious and eye-opening. Also read Calvin Trillin’s profile of R.W. Apple Jr. (the NYT politics #1 writer) in the New Yorker. Finally, Tom Chiarella’s "The $20 Theory of the Universe" was amazing – a $20 bill can get you a long way (like securing an exit row seat on Southwest? That’s what I was wondering coming back from LA last night…)

Anthologies like this are always time-efficient…
