The attitude towards life represented by that quote is just what I would expect of E.B. White, whom I greatly admire.
He was probably “thinking about lunch” when he said this, though– there’s no inherent conflict between the two impulses.
Enjoying life and savoring a moment is also improving the world and adding to the sum total of human happiness.
I suppose you could say the same thing about Provigil.;-)
